Umbreit was a student of Kittel in Erfurt (to whom he also dedicated the present organ pieces) and thus a grandson of JS Bach. In the era of the “organ-poor” classical period, he wrote substantial works in which he knew how to combine old compositional techniques with new means of expression. “Literature for church services, concerts and lessons that appeals.
