Curtain up! (Ped.) 11 transcriptions from opera and operetta for organ solo Edited and published by Hans Uwe Hielscher
Publisher No. BU 3076 After four editions with sophisticated transcriptions of famous opera overtures (Strauss, Rossini, Suppè) in our new series, it is now time to say “curtain up!” for a whole cornucopia of well-known and popular melodies from opera and operetta that almost everyone knows. Whether it is a cheerful organ concert, carnival, an organ performance or any time you want to delight an audience with hits from the area of ”light music”: this anthology will help the project to succeed! A two-manual organ is sufficient, and the rest is the responsibility of the experienced arranger Hans Uwe Hielscher, who, in this volume in particular, placed great importance on making all pieces easy to play, so that both the playing and listening pleasure can begin immediately and unhindered!
Contents: Bizet: Introduction and interlude from “Carmen” – Offenbach: Barcarole from “The Tales of Hoffmann” – Verdi: “La donna è mobile” from “Rigoletto” and prisoners’ chorus from “Nabucco” – Mascagni: Intermezzo sinfonico from “Cavalleria rusticana” – Lehár: Waltz from “The Count of Luxembourg” – Massenet: Méditation from “Thaïs” – Joh. Strauss: Entrance march from “The Gypsy Baron” – Thomas: Gavotte from “Mignon” – Rossini: Overture from “The Thieving Magpie”.
“In these arrangements, the experienced organist Hielscher speaks entirely. He knows his instrument and knows how to tailor the respective orchestral scores to the organ – everything is easy to handle – without overstretching the requirements. A successful and recommendable volume. Curtain up! And have fun playing and listening!” “The volume contains the most popular of the popular pieces, which even those who are not familiar with music can expect to recognize. There are wrong fears that these transcriptions of orchestral movements place high technical demands. This is not least due to the foresight of Hans Uwe Hielscher, who always thinks very practically. It is amazing how well these pieces work on the organ!” [organ 3/2023] [Music & Worship 2/2024]
