Description

With alternating voices – 27 easy to medium-difficulty works (Ped.)

Since the publication of the first collection of organ music by Herzog (see above), it has been clear that the smaller works by the Erlangen church music professor, which were widely distributed in the 19th century, are still able to fulfil the same intention today as when they were written: to provide part-time organists with high-quality literature for use in church services. The second volume again contains meditative movements, but now with somewhat larger volumes and changes in sound, hence the title of the collection “With alternating voices”, which in no way requires a two-manual organ. Individual movements can also be used in concerts, for example as an instrumental interlude in a choir or vocal solo program.
“The compositional technique of these organ pieces by Herzog is solid and dignified, with moderate technical difficulty. The compositional means are stringent and show a certain nobility.”
