The “Four Orchestral Pieces” are among the very few orchestral works by Bruckner apart from his symphonies. It is a pity that they are rarely on the repertoire, as they are charming gems of romantic literature, characterized by energetic, gripping as well as lyrical, dreamy characters. As with many works by the composer-organist Bruckner, these pieces are also ideal for organ transcriptions, which are in the best hands with the Bruckner expert, composer and experienced arranger Erwin Horn. The edition is a welcome addition to the concert organ repertoire; the four pieces can also be used individually in church services.
