After our esteemed organ series “England and America” published portraits of composers, particularly in relation to English music of the 19th century, this anthology offers substantial works by various composers of the “Victorian era” and thus broadens the picture of an era that produced extremely sonorous organ works for church services, but also for the emerging English concert hall tradition. The selection was made with a balanced stylistic range; it was made by a profound expert on the subject, the renowned former organist of the venerable York Minster. The result is a valuable collection of practical organ music for a wide variety of occasions, most of which has long been out of print.
