Description
Overture to “Poet and Peasant” (Ped.) Organ goes Opera Volume 2 Edited and published by Hans Uwe Hielscher
Originally from Dalmatia, the young composer Franz von Suppé came to Vienna at the age of 16 and stayed here for the rest of his long and successful life. Over 200 stage works from his pen have survived. The most famous is certainly the overture to “Poet and Peasant”. His music combines Viennese elegance with Italian verve; Offenbachian effervescence stands alongside melodic “Schmäh” and gripping drama. This effective orchestral work has now been transcribed for the organ by a proven arranger as part of our new series “Organ goes Opera”: Hans Uwe Hielscher’s transcription is easy to follow, avoids unnecessary difficulties and yet offers the whole range of emotions that move the audience.
