Organ Transcriptions (Ped.) Volume 33 of the series “Organ Music from England and America” Edited and published by Edward Tambling
Elgar is considered the most important composer of the English Romantic period; his work continues to enjoy unbridled popularity to this day. Church music was also highly regarded by him, as evidenced by numerous sacred choral works, but unfortunately only relatively few organ compositions. The close proximity of many of his works to organ music had already prompted contemporaries to make individual transcriptions. This is the first anthology that focuses in particular on Elgar’s shorter, very popular individual works. The volume is crowned by the majestic “Imperial March”, in which the composer celebrates British sonority in the best “Pomp & Circumstances” style.
Contents: O salutaris hostia – Ave verum corpus – Nimrod – Chanson de Nuit – Salut d’Amour – Chanson de Matin – Sonatina – Sospiri – Contrasts – Imperial March.
