Battison Haynes lived in the latter half of the 19th Century and studied with Ebenezer Prout (of Handel’s “Messiah” fame). He went on to become Professor of harmony & composition at the Royal Academy of Music and subsequently became organist of St Philip’s church, Sydenham and of the Queen’s Chapel of the Savoy
