In his role as one of the most important German organ composers and teachers of the 19th century, Rheinberger was occasionally asked to contribute to organ collections. These mostly shorter compositions gradually fell into oblivion and are now – after extensive research – brought together in a small compendium. The pieces, which are currently not available in stores or not in their original version, represent useful liturgical literature at the high level that Rheinberger is known for.
