Hand on heart: Who knows the “Fantaisie 1854” by César Franck? He wrote it on the occasion of the inauguration of the new Ducroquet organ in the famous Parisian church of Saint-Eustache, but left the work unprinted. It was not until the eighties of the last century that the manuscript was discovered and published, albeit with many editorial deficiencies and almost to the exclusion of experts. Professor Bernhard Haas presents a new edition that was created in the closest style of Franck’s manuscript and leaves nothing to be desired both in terms of textual criticism and practical play. With this composition it is clear: the canon of César Franck’s twelve “great” organ works must be expanded!
