Thomas Trotter is one of Britain’s most widely admired musicians, a fact that was reflected in Her Majesty The Queen’s awarding him The Queen’s Medal for Music on St Cecilia’s Day 2020. He has been City Organist in Birmingham since 1983, and is based at the Town Hall and Symphony Hall, where he gives weekly recitals covering a huge repertoire, including many of his own transcriptions. He is also organist at St Margaret’s, Westminster. Trotter has been awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society’s prestigious Instrumentalist Award in recognition of his achievements as ‘one of the foremost exponents of the organist’s art’.
This superb volume contains twelve varied pieces arranged for organ by celebrated recitalist Thomas Trotter. A selection of orchestral, piano, and vocal originals, including works by Delibes, Gounod, Grieg, Eric Coates, and Madeleine Dring, has been transcribed with a finely honed sense of idiom, so as to be manageable on most organs. All the pieces are short and suitable as recital encores, but they could also double up as recital pieces, and in some cases as church voluntaries.
