Description
Three Preludes and Fugues on Advent Songs. op. 61 (Ped.)
Edited by Albert Clement. The Dutch composer Margaretha de Jong has impressively demonstrated how masterfully she understands the composition of chorale-related works in the Baroque style with the “Three Preludes and Fugues on Songs of Praise and Thanksgiving” (BU 2593). In the same way, she presents here three sonorous pairs of movements on well-known Advent songs, which, due to their length of about seven minutes each, are suitable as festive preludes and postludes for the church service as well as highlights for an Advent concert or evening music. The intermediate works are all the more welcome because the original Baroque repertoire of more extensive arrangements of these very popular chorales is exceptionally sparse.
Contents: Prelude and fugue on “Macht hoch die Tür” s Prelude and fugue on “Daughter of Zion, rejoice” s Prelude and fugue on “How shall I receive you”.
