Description
Fährmann, Hans (1860–1940) BU 2440 Choral Preludes op. 59, I (Ped.) Edited by Dietrich von Knebel
Hans Fährmann can be considered a prime example of those late-romantic German organ composers who were almost completely forgotten in the second half of the 20th century. Yet his extensive organ works (which center on 14 large sonatas) can rightly claim an honorable place in the repertoire. The seven choral preludes from op. 59 are ideal as an “introduction” to his organ works; all of the chorales on which the composer based them are still in the ground floor today.
