Silent Night
It was a sensational composition competition that the Bavarian city of Burghausen initiated in 2018 to mark the 200th anniversary of the creation of the world’s most famous Christmas carol, “Silent Night, Holy Night”: 68 participants from across Europe and the USA presented their contributions to a top-class jury, which then announced the three winners. In keeping with the importance of the competition, it was only logical that these three award-winning works should be released immediately afterwards both on a CD and in a sheet music edition. The three very differently designed works are united by the desire of their creators to wrap the venerable Christmas carol in new sonic garments and to provide today’s organist practice with sound-rich and stylish works for church services and concerts.
