Monn is one of the most important Viennese representatives of the pre-classical period. At just 21 years of age he became organist at the famous Karlskirche, where he wrote not only vocal church music but also liturgically conceived organ works. The mostly short manualiter preludes, verses and postludes in this first edition were composed for the alternatim practice of voice and organ. Today they are suitable as short preludes and interludes, and as an introduction to polyphonic organ playing to accompany lessons.
