Description

Nymphéas op. 54 for organ solo.

Original version and arrangement (Ped.) (First edition!) Arranged for three-manual organ by Tobias A. Frank )

This first edition can be considered a sensation in the field of editions of French organ music of the 20th century. In 1958/59, inspired by the eight large water lily paintings by Claude Monet that were exhibited in Paris, Dupré composed this cycle for his house organ in Meudon, into which he had had a number of technical refinements built in a few years previously, such as sostenuto (key shackle) and coupure (manual and pedal divisions). Due to the extensive use of these special effects, the work can hardly be played on any other organ, which is why it has remained unpublished to this day. The Dupré expert Tobias Frank (Munich) has ingeniously arranged the eight movements for a “normal” three-manual organ (higher level of difficulty), so that they can now be heard in many places. The edition also contains the original Dupré version so that the performer can use this for comparison. It is an incredibly colorful, harmonically dense and very intimate piece of music that sheds a whole new light on the composer Marcel Dupré.
